Accessibility of the Galician market

Trade Regime

All agreements and treaties established by the Member States of the European Union will be valid in Galicia, which, as part of Spain, belongs to the EU.

Within the EU, customs agreements have been strengthened since 1993. Border controls have been relaxed, and people and goods are allowed to circulate freely within the Customs Territory of the Community.

As a result, the entry of goods originating in Member States of the European Union, or goods from third countries that have been released for free circulation, are not subject to quotas or permits. Certain defence material and dual-use items and technologies are excluded. The same applies to the dispatch of Galician goods.

The import of industrial products from third countries is also included under the free-trade regime, with some exceptions: The import of certain goods (textiles and clothing, footwear, and some steel products) originating in particular countries is subject to quotas or security measures. Other specific goods (drugs, defence material, and dual-use items and technologies) are subject to prior authorisation.

The export to third countries of both agricultural and industrial products is included under the free-trade regime, except for defence material and dual-use items and technologies, which are subject to prior authorisation.

Customs Tariffs

Due to the trade regime for the Free Circulation of Goods established between the Member States of the European Union, the entry of goods originating within the Customs Territory of the Community is exempt from customs tariffs.

The import of goods originating in third countries is subject to the Common Customs Tariff of the EU, since Spain, and therefore Galicia, are included in the the Member States of the European Union.
